Yuping Xiaodi has a brand history of more than 400 years, and it is the pride of the Chinese nation. During the Wanli reign of the Ming Dynasty, Zheng Weifan founded the brand of Yuping Xiaodi and sold it himself. One day, his friend will go to the capital. When he left, Zheng Weifan presented an exquisite flute to his friend as a souvenir. On a night in the capital, Zheng Weifan’s friends were homesick and used the donated flute music to express their thoughts about their hometown. But this exquisite voice was introduced into the palace and heard by the emperor, so he went to find people to find out the source of the flute.  The emperor did not find the person who played the flute, but only inquired that the instrument used by the flute holder came from the Zheng family in Pingxi. The later emperor asked the Zheng family to pay tribute every year. This tradition continued to the Xuantong emperor of the Qing Dynasty.

In 1913, the Yuping Xiaodi won the silver award at the London International Handicraft Fair in England, and won the gold award at the Pacific Fair in San Francisco, USA in 1915 to commemorate the opening of the Panama Canal. Yuping Xiaodi is the first Chinese national musical instrument brand to win international awards.

After the founding of New China, under the care of the government, in 1951, 18 people including Zheng Huizheng, Li Fengshan, Nie Fengming established the Yuping Xiaodi joint venture factory to inherit the management of the Yuping Xiaodi brand. In 1958, the joint venture was designated as a national enterprise. The factory has more than 120 craftsmen and an annual output of more than 500,000 musical instruments. The brand leader Zheng Huizheng was received by Premier Zhou Enlai.

In 1979, Vice Chairman Deng Xiaoping received Yao Benlin, the person in charge of Yuping Xiaodi. In 1981, Yao Benlin participated in the China National Musical Instrument Reform Symposium as a representative. In the 1990s, Yuping flute became the main flute manufacturer in China.

In 2013, Yuping Xiaodi obtained the right to use the Yinshan Academy, which has a history of more than 200 years, and spent a lot of money to build China’s first Xiaodi Museum, which is free to the public.
